Stephen Berry Olney journal, 1855 Feb. 14-Nov. 30.

The diary describes Dr. Olney's trip to and across Iowa in search of a suitable place for his practice. After spending March in Fort Des Moines he settled in Fort Dodge. The journal includes references to Major Williams and to treatments given to various patients.

William Williams was born in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. He served with the military in Pennsylvania and later was connected with the Exchange Bank of Pittsburg. In 1849 he moved to Iowa and stopped briefly in Muscatine before accompanying United States troops westward to establish the post of Fort Clark, which later became Fort Dodge.
